Abstract

Social media is one of the most prominent means that influence young people, especially in the university environment, which plays a major role either in their culture and the speed of transferring science and knowledge, or in the spread of trivial content patterns that affect the value system in society.
The study adopted the descriptive analytical approach, where the questionnaire was used as the main tool for collecting data from the study population. It showed several results, the most important of which was that the social worker has a pivotal role in promoting community awareness, consolidating positive values, and developing critical thinking skills among individuals, enabling them to deal consciously with content. The results also revealed a number of challenges facing social workers, most notably the limited resources and capabilities, the weakness of awareness programs, and the lack of specialized training, as well as the challenges related to the dynamic nature and speed of the spread of content through social media platforms in light of global openness and the difficulty of controlling it.
In light of these results, the study recommends the need to develop the roles of community and environmental service offices, provide specialized training programs for social workers, and impose legislation and laws that contribute to enabling them to perform their roles efficiently and effectively to reduce the spread of trivial content.
