Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of linear programming in achieving optimal planning of production operations through its application to the Tripoli Pasta and Ready- Made Couscous Factory. The importance of the study stems from the need to employ scientific quantitative methods that contribute to improving the efficiency of utilizing production resources, reducing costs, and maximizing output under existing constraints. The study adopted the descriptive–analytical approach as well as the applied approach. Data related to the elements of the production process such as raw materials, production capacity, working hours, and production costs were collected. A linear programming model was developed with the objective of achieving optimal production planning in the factory under study. The results indicate that the application of linear programming significantly contributes to improving the production planning process by determining optimal production quantities, achieving the optimal use of available resources, and reducing waste and production costs. The study also concluded that there is practical potential for applying linear programming models in Libyan industrial factories, which would enhance their operational efficiency and competitive capability. Accordingly, the study recommends adopting modern quantitative methods in production planning and providing training for administrative and technical staff on the use of linear programming models in production decision-making.
