Abstract

This research aims to highlight the decorative art in traditional clothing in the Jufra region as an important visual expression of local cultural identity. This art reflects the interaction between humans and their desert environment, as well as their social and historical heritage, through geometric and plant-based motifs that are simple yet carry deep symbolic meanings related to beauty, protection, and belonging.

The decorations in Jufra clothing rely on traditional manual techniques, primarily embroidered threads in vibrant colors, as well as the use of beads and golden threads, especially in ceremonial garments. These motifs are often inspired by the surrounding nature, with colors such as red, yellow, and black, and feature repetitive forms that reflect balance and harmony.

Aesthetically, the decorative art in Jufra clothing is characterized by refined simplicity, where the value of decoration does not lie in its density, but rather in the harmonious distribution and precision of its elements. Additionally, the motifs serve functional as well as aesthetic purposes, symbolizing the status and cultural significance of the clothing.

The results showed that the decorative art in the traditional clothing of the Jufra region represents a clear balance between function and beauty. It serves as a living record of the community's history and traditions, making it an important element in preserving cultural identity and promoting heritage tourism in Libya.
