This study aims to achieve a primary objective: identifying the nature of social value representations in Libyan television drama. This is conducted through an analytical study of the episodes of the series "Shatt Al-Hurriya" (2021). Falling under the category of descriptive research, the study employs a content analysis methodology. The study population consists of the entire third season of the series, comprising all 23 episodes, which were comprehensively analyzed using a purposive sample to determine social values and their levels of representation within the dramatic discourse.
The study reached several key findings, most notably that values of social solidarity, cooperation, assistance, "Al-Faz’a" (chivalrous aid), collective action, and workplace companionship were at the forefront of the values presented. The results also revealed a predominance of behavioral representation of values, followed by emotional representation, while a relative weakness was noted in cognitive representation. Furthermore, positive values generally prevailed, with negative values being utilized for awareness and critique to expose social and institutional imbalances within Libyan society.
In light of these findings, the study recommends the continued integration of positive social values in Libyan dramatic productions, while emphasizing the need to expand the presence of values such as justice, citizenship, and national belonging to enhance social awareness and consolidate national identity.
