"The role of civil society organizations in promoting the political participation of citizens in the city of Benghazi: An analytical study for the period 2011–2026"

Abstract

This study examines the role of Civil Society Organizations in enhancing citizens' political participation in the city of Benghazi during the period from 2011 to 2026, it focuses on the roles performed by these organizations in political awareness, electoral education, monitoring, advocacy, training, and encouraging citizens to engage in public affairs, the study also examines the transformations that affected the activities of Civil Society Organizations in light of the political, security, and legislative changes experienced by Libya during this period, and assesses how these changes influenced their ability to promote political participation among citizens in Benghazi, the study employs the case study approach and the descriptive analytical method to examine the institutional and legal environment of Civil Society Organizations, with particular attention to the mechanisms used to enhance political participation and the constraints that have limited their effectiveness, the study ultimately seeks to evaluate the actual contribution of these organizations and to provide recommendations that may strengthen their capacity to support more sustainable and effective political participation.
